You paint for four hours. You take a four hour break. Then you paint for four more. It makes perfect sense. The first four hours, starting at 8 a.m., give you the morning sun. The next four give you time to do whatever—shop, hit the beach, grab a bite—even sketch if you’re insatiable. The last four, starting at 4 p.m., give you that amazing late afternoon light. Where this happens is as important as how it happens. You’ll be in Lewes (pronounced Lewis) Delaware, the first town in the first state, which dates from the 1600s. Specifically, you’ll be at Virden Center, part of the University of Delaware. You can paint everything you see. Class is held right across from the Coast Guard station, an eminently paintable structure. You’ll be on the Delaware Bay where it reaches out to the Atlantic. Turn around and you’re painting marshland. Lewes’ main drag (two streets) offers historical log cabins and other buildings, including one with a cannonball stuck in its wall. Paint it with or without. Outside of Lewes, there’s a canal and a bridge to the beach. And then there’s Cape Henlopen State Park with its wildlife, salt marsh, hiking trails and 100-foot-high dunes. Yes, we paint there, too. For more information or to register, call 215-7176098. ED 7780D
